Donovan Mitchell Trade by Utah Jazz Star in Cavaliers

Donovan Mitchell trade, a three-time NBA All-Star guard, was reportedly traded from the Utah Jazz to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday. In exchange for three other players and three NBA Draft picks.

The agreement was made two months after the Jazz traded star French big man Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves. According to ESPN and The Athletic.

Cleveland will trade to the Jazz Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, a 7-foot forward from Finland, Ochai Agbaji, a 22-year-old US guard, three additional first-round picks in the future, as well as two pick swaps.

Sexton, a 23-year-old American guard, will reportedly sign a four-year, $72 million sign and trade deal with the Jazz.

Although neither team immediately acknowledged the switch. Spider Mitchell, a Cleveland All-Star guard, retweeted Darius Garland’s tweet “10 and (spider emoji)” with exclamation points.

In addition to the proceeds from the Gobert trade, the Jazz also acquired nine players, nine of whom were 2022 first-round picks, three pick swaps from 2023 to 2029, and seven first-round NBA Draft picks.

Last NBA season, Donovan Mitchell averaged 25.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.5 steals—all career highs.

Along with Garland, 2022 All-Star center Jarrett Allen, and 2022 All-Rookie forward Evan Mobley, he joins the Cavaliers lineup.

During Mitchell’s five years in Utah, the Jazz won seasons and made it to the playoffs yearly. But they never advanced past the second round of the playoffs and only twice.

According to reports, the Jazz and the New York Knicks were considering a trade for Canadian forward R.J. Barrett.

As Donovan Mitchell’s trade to the Cavs was unveiled, the Knicks announced a contract extension for 22-year-old Barrett, Knicks president Leon Rose calling him “a core piece of our team’s foundation.”
