Avalanche remarked:

“I felt like we played how we wanted to.” “We used our speed to get on pucks immediately, with men forechecking hard, aggressive, and effectively defending. So our men put up a terrific 200-foot effort. It was great to have a goal so early in the game.”

Devon Toews made it 2-0 22 seconds later with a right face-off circle. With a shorthanded goal at 8:30, Andrew Cogliano made it 3-0. Cogliano got his rebound and scored near the right post after Mattias Ekholm dropped a pass to no one in the defensive zone.

At 12:15, Makar made it 4-0 with a shot from a tight angle off Rittich’s mask, who withdrew after Artturi Lehkonen made it 5-0 at 15:04.
