Boston Bruins in Game 3 Win First Stanley Cup Playoff against the Carolina Hurricanes
On Friday, the Team Boston Bruins beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2 in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference First Round at TD Garden, with Jeremy Swayman making 25 saves in his first Stanley Cup Playoff start. For Team Boston Bruins, the first wild card in the East, Brad Marchand scored two goals, while David Pastrnak and Charlie Coyle each had a goal and an assist. On the penalty kill, the Bruins went 5-for-5.

The Metropolitan Division’s top seed, Carolina, got goals from Vincent Trocheck and Jaccob Slavin. In his first postseason start, Pyotr Kochetkov made 24 saves. The Bruins didn’t play in a series-ending elimination game, but it felt like one. After losing the first two games in Raleigh, a defeat on home ice could have been too much of a shock.

At 9:17 of the first period, Trocheck punched Brendan Smith’s rebound’s point shot to put the Hurricanes up 1-0. They effectively moved the puck and relieved pressure. On rookie goalkeeper Pyotr Kochetkov, who was also making his maiden playoff appearance.
At 17:16, Coyle knotted it up with a shorthanded goal, deflecting Jake DeBrusk’s rush pass. Marchand took the Bruins their first lead with a wrist shot. In the slot after Brady Skjei stopped Patrice Bergeron’s one-timer at 5:41 of the second period.
Power-play goal extended

Cassidy said that before the game, he might seek out different matchups with the last change at home than in the previous two games. Cassidy suggested he may maintain Pastrnak on the line with Patrice Bergeron and Marchand instead of the Jordan Staal line, which had been so effective for the Canes in the first two games. Marchand’s goal, though, was scored against the Staal line and Canes defenseman Brady Skjei and Brett Pesce. The Bruins now have more vigor.
