Blazers and Altas are Fighting for the Final Four seat in NCAA Men’s Basketball

On Wednesday, May 4, at the NCAA Season 97 at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan, expect pyrotechnics and challenging play as Blazers and Altas battle for the last Final Four. The Blazers want to break a 20-year drought in the Final Four. The Altas hope to return to the semifinals for the first time in 2018.

The game between the Blazers and Altas will begin at 3 p.m. With the winner earning a spot in the semifinals against the current champion and two winners Letran. The last time St. Benilde reached the Final Four was in 2002 when it guides by NCAA MVP Sunday Salvacion in Season 78. Last Sunday, the Blazers had a chance to earn a berth in the Final Four by defeating the San Beda Red Lions 63-57 in the first round of the play-in.

Coach Charles Tiu said:

“They’re on the run right now, playing with confidence.” There is a lot of individual skill on display. It will be challenging to protect them in this game. And the elimination game is now meaningless,”

This time around, CSB guides by many young guns led by Robi Nayve and Will Gozum, who are keen to end the dry period at the cost of a formidable Altas team. A lot is expected of the Blazers’ best scorers. Particularly after they struggled against the Red Lions’ defense, scoring just 18 points combined.

Miggy Corteza, who has a broken nose, will also miss the game for CSB. And AJ Benson, who suspends for one game for two unsportsmanlike fouls he made against San Beda.

On the other hand, Perpetual had a strong performance from its leading man Kim Aurin in their final two games. The first against EAC, which earned them a position in the play-in, and the second against Arellano, which kept their tournament ambitions alive.
