What is UAAP?
The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), founded in 1938, is an athletic association in the Philippines that includes eight schools in the metro manila. The eight-member school institutions are Adamson University, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Far Eastern University, National University, University of the East, University of the Philippines Diliman, and the University of Santo Tomas.
This UAAP institution competes in the league’s 28 sports each year for the overall championship title, including badminton, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, chess, fencing, football, judo, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.
Forming Athletic Organization

In 1930, the UP sponsored an experimental meet in basketball, football, baseball, volleyball, swimming, track & field, boxing, and tennis between the league’s “Big 3” (NU, UP, and UST). The NCAA Board of Directors reorganized the meet into three divisions in 1931 to make the competition more equal and to encourage more people to participate in sports. In March 1932, NU, UP, and UST formally left the NCAA. The move was made under the leadership of UP’s Candido C. Bartolome to level the playing field, enhance amateur athletic events, and isolate the universities from the league’s school members.
The “Big 3 League” was formed on April 6. The “Big 3” Association will be officially launched on August 14th with a meet that includes basketball, baseball, football, volleyball, relays, track and field, swimming, and tennis.
